Designing for Access and Agency: Introduction to Universal Design for Learning: 12 June
Designing for Access and Agency: Introduction to Universal Design for Learning: 12 June
14:30-15:30 (London)
Hosted by the ECIS Inclusive Education Special Interest Group.
This session introduces Universal Design for Learning (UDL) – a framework that directs the attention of educators to aspects of instructional design that are essential to accessible, inclusive learning experiences. We’ll think about the variability of all learners, the importance of accessible educational materials (AEM) and the belief that barriers live in designs, not people. As an inclusive education consultant once summarised, “Instead of asking if the learner is ready for the lesson, UDL asks if the lesson is ready for the learner.” (Michael McSheehan, Evolve & Effect LLC). Resources for further learning will be shared.
