Workshop #1: Understanding AI’s Impact on Education and Society (60 minutes)

This workshop provides a comprehensive overview of how AI is rapidly transforming both society and educational environments. Participants will gain foundational knowledge about AI technologies, including how they work, their societal effects, and their potential to reshape schools. We will explore key ethical issues such as data bias and the implications of deep fakes in education. The session will incorporate insights from KnowledgeWorks Forecast 5.0 to contextualize these changes and highlight the challenges and opportunities that AI presents for educators and students. Participants will engage in hands-on activities to apply these concepts within their own educational contexts.

Workshop #2: Integrating AI into Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (60 minutes)

In this session, educators will delve into practical strategies for leveraging AI in curriculum design, instructional practices, and assessment methods. We will explore a specific framework for using AI prompts to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative tasks. Participants will learn how to co-design educational units using AI tools, streamline administrative workflows, and effectively assess student performance. Through hands-on activities, educators will experiment with AI-generated prompts to develop and refine instructional strategies, while considering when and how AI should be integrated into assessments and classroom activities.

Workshop #3: Ethical Decision-Making and Responsible AI Use in Education (60 minutes)

This workshop focuses on the ethical considerations and decision-making processes necessary for responsible AI integration in the classroom. Participants will explore strategies for maintaining academic integrity, addressing AI-related biases, and ensuring fairness in AI-supported educational practices. We will examine case studies on AI ethics and discuss the concept of co-creating with AI in collaborative learning environments. This session will also cover practical ways to support students in developing critical thinking, research, communication, and self-management skills while using AI. Participants will explore guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable AI use, based on the policies from International Schools (as examples), and engage in activities that reinforce responsible AI practices.

In each of these workshops, participants will engage in collaborative, hands-on activities designed to reinforce learning and apply the concepts shared in the sessions. These activities, conducted in breakout rooms, will allow educators to explore and adapt AI-related strategies to their specific educational contexts.

About the facilitator

John Mikton is currently the Technology for Learning Coordinator at the International School of Geneva – La Châtaigneraie bringing 30 years of experience in education and media technology. John has worked in international schools, in Africa, Asia and Europe. With leadership roles as IT Director, Director of eLearning, Head of Education and Media Technology, and Deputy Principal, all with a focus on integrating digital fluency into education.

John is a trainer and course designer at the Principal Training Center, Facilitator with ECIS Middle Leader Certificate Programme, and coach for the Faria Education Group. Co-host of International Schools Podcast.
