University scholarship: appplications open for 2024

ECIS offers a scholarship (bursary) for first-year university students who graduate from an ECIS member school! We award one £10,000 scholarship per year, payable directly from ECIS to the university at the beginning of the first term of yearly enrolment. Just another way we employ membership funds to advance international education in our world. Applications are now open for those schools with Level 3 School Membership.

This prestigious annual scholarship is available to students studying at ECIS member schools. To be eligible, students must be applying to a 501 (c)(3), US chartered, degree-granting institution. Awards are $2,000 USD each.

The ECIS Promotion of International Education Award celebrates any adult in the ECIS member school community—whether an educator, support staff member, or Board member—who exemplifies a commitment to advancing international education. This prestigious award is deeply rooted in the ECIS mission, vision, and values, which promote equity, inclusion, global understanding, and fostering connections across diverse cultures.

What Do We Mean by “International Education”?

International education is about more than teaching and learning across borders; it is about building a more inclusive, connected, and compassionate world. It nurtures intercultural understanding, cultivates empathy, and prepares individuals to collaborate across differences. This award honours those who create opportunities for learners and communities to engage with diverse perspectives, embody global citizenship, and advocate for equity and belonging.

Criteria for the Award

To be considered for this award, nominees should demonstrate:

  • Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion:Actively fostering a culture of belonging by promoting equity and celebrating the rich tapestry of identities, voices, and experiences in the school community.
  • Innovative Practices in International Education:Introducing or supporting programmes, events, or initiatives that promote global awareness, intercultural dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Sustainable Impact:Leaving a lasting, positive legacy through their contributions, ensuring that the principles of international education are embedded in the school’s ethos and continue to inspire future generations.

Each ECIS member school may nominate one recipient annually for this award. By celebrating the changemakers who bring international education to life, we affirm our shared commitment to shaping inclusive, globally minded school communities.

The ECIS Award for Intercultural Understanding celebrates outstanding students in ECIS member schools who demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering meaningful connections across cultures. This prestigious award aligns with the ECIS mission, vision, and values, which emphasize equity, inclusion, and the importance of intercultural understanding in shaping globally minded communities.

What Do We Mean by “Intercultural Understanding”?

Intercultural understanding is the ability to connect with and appreciate diverse cultures, perspectives, and experiences. It involves cultivating empathy, challenging biases, and engaging in meaningful dialogue to build bridges between people from diverse backgrounds. This award honours students who actively foster a sense of belonging, mutual respect, and collaboration within their school and beyond.

Criteria for the Award

To be considered for this award, nominees should demonstrate:

  • Commitment to Cultural Awareness and Empathy: Engaging with and celebrating the diverse identities within their school community, promoting understanding and respect.
  • Leadership in Intercultural Engagement: Taking initiative to create opportunities for intercultural dialogue, collaborative projects, or events that bring people together.
  • Positive and Lasting Impact: Inspiring others to embrace intercultural understanding through actions that create a more inclusive and harmonious school environment.

Each ECIS member school may nominate one student annually for this award. By recognising exceptional students who embody the spirit of intercultural understanding, we celebrate the next generation of leaders shaping a more inclusive, connected world.

Nominate a student and shine a light on their outstanding contributions to intercultural understanding! Nominations are accepted up to the end of May and awards given in June each year.

International school awards

ECIS member schools are encouraged to share outstanding programming, to receive international recognition! The International School Awards celebrate learning, teaching, community, pastoral care, leadership and strategic initiatives at international schools. They provide the opportunity for international schools to share best practice, creative endeavours, community participation and innovation. The International School Awards are hosted by our partner, ISC Research, with the support of International School Leader Magazine.
